I planned this trip to NYC taking both Austin and Madison but it ended up just being me and Madison. We arrived on a cold wet Sunday afternoon hauling our baggage through Times Square to our hotel. We were quite proud of ourselves for navigating our way via trains and subways from LaGuardia Airport!
Even in the rain, the city was full of tourists but not nearly as many as usual since this was also the end of February!
One of our first stops was Rockefeller Center since we had tickets for that night to go to the "Top of the Rock". The ice arena is much smaller than I had expected...but still pretty cool just the same.
The top of the building was lost in the clouds.
The iconic gold statue.
After taking care of business at the Rockefeller center, we headed over to St. Paul's for a quick tour of this amazing church. While it's not as impressive as some of the cathedrals in Europe, it's still pretty cool to have churches like this is the USA.
By evening we needed a break and this Brazilian restaurant was just down the street from our hotel. The menu looked good so in we went for an amazing dinner! It also ended up being one of the least expensive dinners of the trip. Go figure.
By this point we were pretty much done with dinner but you can see how much food we still had!
Back in Times Square you could hardly notice that it was so dismally overcast since it's so lit up!
This is a little out of order but it's the view from our hotel window. It was right across the street from the Broadway theater where Hamilton is playing.
Of course we had to get in a little NYC shopping for some retail therapy the first night!
Back over to Rockefeller Center...loved all the flags.
This reminded me of a scene from Batman - Gothic City. Not sure why - maybe its in my head!
We walked about 6 miles this first day and were only in NYC half a day! Oh my....
