Good Luck Horseshoes

I made these pretty Good Luck horseshoes to sell at the tack sale and only sold one - the one I pretty much already had sold to a friend as an anniversary gift.  Oh well.

This first one is going to a friend who recently had a mastectomy.  Anyone with breast cancer needs lots of good luck wishes!  The others are still all for sale - I'll ship these too!

Barn Goats

Our barn has goats.  They live in the isle ways and 90% of the time are getting in your way or stealing your stuff.  But when it's really, really cold, like it was the other night at 2 degrees, they are cuddled up sleeping with their noses tucked together.  Until I woke them up taking pictures. And got dirty looks.

Another Birthday - another one hitting the golden years!

I wasn't all that crazy about turning 50 last month and I have to say, Scott is even less happy.  But he enjoyed his birthday dinner at Stillwater Grill Saturday night and was making the best of it!

Rockin' the Winter Wear

Getting Motocross Boy/Man to model his new winter coat and sweater wasn't easy.  Equestrian Girl will model new stuff at the drop of a hat.  This wasn't so easy to get so look fast!

Horseshoe Art

This weekend we have a tack sale.  Equestrian Girl and I have put together a huge assortment of things we'd love to part with for a bit of money but we are also going to feature some horseshoe art.  Most of it is made by Motocross Boy/Man and his welding instructor from Ironman Metal Works (our next door neighbor).  This will include candle holders like the one below and my TP stand (I think I blogged about that last month).  They also made some towel racks.  Just to get in on the action, I made the one below - it's just decorative - a good luck horseshoe in pretty pinks.  I think it might fetch a few bucks!

Winter Horses

This little group of Stanley's pasture buddies kind of made me laugh. They looked like they were trying to hide in this pitiful stand of trees.  The pasture right here is so beat up with the freeze and thaw.  It's ankle breaking out there right now.

More of the pasture crowd hanging out further in the field.  Such a gray, cold day.  Brrrr.

Getting in Shape

Motocross Boy/Man has big plans for March - a 5 day practice in Georgia.  Dad says he needs to get in shape for this so he's been hitting my treadmill...of course, he's wearing his sister's pink headphones and groaning in agony by the end of his 30 minutes of running but he's gettin' it done!

We're all actually getting it done.  I've lost 12 pounds with only 20 to go (I'd settle for another 10 but why settle, right?).  Scott has lost a few and is trying to quit smoking yet again along with more weight to go.  And Equestrian Girl has started running to get prepared for her Girls Running class that starts at the end of the month.  I'm on the treadmill most nights walking.  I just can't run any more but I'm moving!

Winter Showing with IEA

Winter means no more carting Stanley around to shows but it DOES mean IEA - Interscholastic Equestrian Association.  This is the shirt Equestrian Girl wore for most of the meets last year but this year we added more crystals and "flashed" it up a bit.  We both think it looks WAY better!

Deeetroit Winter Sunrises

I marvel at the beautiful sunrises I get to experience from this high rise in Detroit overlooking the Detroit River and Windsor.  From one morning to the next they can be so dramatically different but still so incredible.  In most of these there at least some ice on the river.  It melted a few days later when we had a little warm spell but I bet it's starting to freeze up again.  The lake melted here and is re-freezing with the temps in the teens at night...

More Horseshoe Art

Motocross Boy/Man is going to town with his welding classes!  Next up was this very cool candle holder for her birthday.  They are kind of hard to see in the picture, but I added some gold colored crystals in a few spots to give it some extra bling.  She was VERY happy with it!

Getting Crafty

So I'm not so very crafty but I see stuff sometimes on Pinterest or wherever and think, "I can do that!".  This time was no exception.  A wreath made out of coffee filters!  Perfect since my new coffee maker has a reusable filter and I have a Costco stack of filters for the old one.

I got started.  First the dang filters wouldn't stick to the styrofoam ring I bought even though I was using glue that SAID it was for styrofoam.  I started pinning them all on as I glued them to hold.  Which meant I could really only do one row at a time or I'd 'bury' the pins.  I was 70% done on New Year's Eve and Equestrian Girl had some friends coming over to celebrate.  And there sat my unfinished wreath.  Next to a bowl of uneaten candy canes.

Worked out pretty nice, aye?

New Car

The woman who I buy my cars from also has a daughter that shows horses.  When we were at a horse show a few weeks ago, my son told her that I had never gotten a car with a bow on it and she should make it happen.  So she did!  When I arrived to pick up my new car just after Christmas, there is was with a big red bow.  Loved it!  Thank you Cheryle Anderson at Spirit Ford in Dundee and Motocross Boy/Man!!

Christmas Cheer!

My sister got all the baking genes. She makes fabulous cookies for Christmas!

The cousins love being together!

My sister's Christmas cactus.  She doesn't remember it but it looks so much like one our grandma used to have.

Bathroom remodel

It only took 3 looooooong years but our bathroom remodeling is finally done!  Kinda of hard to see much but it turned out really cute - all beadboard walls with pine trim.  I used one of those hotel style curved shower curtain rods too - love it!

First IEA Meet at Oberlin - 12/2012

It was slightly warmer at Oberlin this year for the first meet of the year.  Thank goodness!  Last year we froze.  The team also did a lot better so I guess the cold is...invigorating?

2012 MPX Banquet

Motocross Boy/Man had a huge banquet-awards ceremony for his racing series at MPX.  They do such a nice job!

Here is Equestrian Girl with one of her Motocross friends - this gal was #2 in her series!

Motocross Boy/Man after getting one of his trophies.
Mom's taking a picture - try to smile!

With Craig McPhee - the owner of MPX and a huge supporter of my son.
